Soft Light

The soft light
of your apartment building
painting shadows on the wall
huddled for warmth
drinking your suicide letters
and past phone numbers
stealing love
from my eyes
depositing dreams and things
I've never needed till now
into a little leather book
in a desperate scrawl
because the city lights frighten me
to death
to die another hour
while thinking of you
my hand in the pale leaves
hearing John Coltrane
on a spider black breeze
my head in the thick of things
of things I often speak of
to ex-girlfriends
and old pictures
in my high school yearbook
they called me the tortured artist
but they didn't call me
and I didn't see me
for another five years
oh no oh no
oh slow the mechanisms of war
and throw out the confetti
climbing the concrete stairs
into your pounding heart
I'm a warm baby
curled up inside you
only shivering whenever you cry
your red weeping willow hair
wrapped around the clouds
you're flying through the sky
I'll drive all night to get back to you
dusting off a place for you to land
on a terpentine dawn
between the bullet and the gun
with candybar wrappers
lapping up on the shore
walking on the infected needle
to kiss your face

Gosh .... tough and soft in the same time.
An impressive outpour of a beautiful "tormented artist"....

this was like a soft candy visit
extremely profound with a love which
never dies...all I can say is
you should give this to her, or speak
the very same to her, word for word
Absolutely mezmorizing
