When the heart breaks over a rainbow,
and a soft gentle breeze
brings tears to the eye,
the flowers of thought
seem bewildered,
about how to grow,
how to survive
diminished
withered and dry.
So far apart
we have become;
you don't remember being young
and beautiful
as blue sea ice in the sun;
paradox,
and my wired-in sense of loyalty,
tore us away
from building life
out of all the daylight plans
we made at night.
Yet I am at a loss in understanding
how you chose
to have burned down the memories,
of joy
love and reverie,
as far as the heart sees,
as far from awareness
as you've wandered from sight.

This was aweome imagery for me.

I read this poem a half dozen times.  Each time, it touched me deeper, leaving me with the same kind of tears you described in the first three lines.  A poem...with which I can identify deeply.   ....jo

I question this every day:

Yet I am at a loss in understanding
how you chose
to have burned down the memories,
of joy
love and reverie,

as I see every experience as a
beautiful memory and time of growth . . .
I adore this Icey . . .

Same lines as Sue quoted...

questions I ponder so often it leaves me deplete of hope at times.

well done my Icy friend.
