~*~

I couldn't have been more relieved
when you said you didn't beg.
It wasn't what I was looking for
or aspire to bring to the surface,
It's more to do with the way I felt about you.

Unlike this little game that you're playing
fashioned to suit yourself in a pinch,
tapping into my naivety
in order to gain the upper hand,
as if I'd never lost before.

Fair is only fair when it's genuine
and I can't tell anymore.
Contrary to popular belief,
I don't need to love you, even if I wanted to,
nor do I have any illusions
that you would admire me for it.

You see,
I've landed on the line too many times,
and hopscotch is but a child's game
I never learned how to play.

Only now do I understand
it's a lot easier to skip it
and I'm just as good to go,
without you.

Got chalk?

Bluesy, I am so proud of you!  That'a girl!  Missed reading you lately as I've been out a bit.  I really liked your use of a child's game to get your point across; and the title....perfect!   .......jo

Is the chalk needed to make hopscotch squares or a body outline? If this person persits in trying to fool you, he may be the one outlined, at least mentally...

Nicely expressed .....

Yup Blusie,
You still put a smile on my face! I too love the ending and always your spirit.

Thanks so much for reading this, M, iliana, ford, Larry Dear, and Nancy.

Never had what they call beginners luck,
been trying to get it right for a long time now.

I swear, you would think I'm wearing a sign on my forehead,
"easy target" or a "sure bet"

A seasoned player I'm not, but I can skip it with the best of em!

So nice to read you again, Bluesy gal.  Sounds as if you've been building up to skip and hop through life.  My best to you.

I've got a whole box....will share it with you.... sweet lady

I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d understand

Same for me -- and for a guy the penalties are much greater....step outside those lines and you not only lose, you've gotta listen to the nimble-footed girls mock you in unison....

But those are the rules, lines are drawn and if you cross them, your turn's over....and it seemed like I was always the one who had to draw those lines before the game, like having to go and cut the stick they spank you with. Still, the very next recess I'd let 'em talk me into it again....

This is fantastically said throughout!

However, this section is absolutely priceless:

You see,
I've landed on the line too many times,
and hopscotch is but a child's game
I never learned how to play.

                                                               Only now do I understand
it's a lot easier to skip it
and I'm just as good to go,
                                                                    without you.

                                                                     Got chalk?

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Caulk I use is for another game
To smooth my cue’s tip,
But it will mark just the same
And even still my hand might slip
For a game is just a game
And emotions are not the same.

Enjoyed the poem

With this delightful write, you are more of a "Whimsy" than a "Bluesy"! lol

No matter the tone, I love your writing!

May I borrow some of your chalk if the need ever arises?

Big hug and an even bigger SMILE!
