Elephant Ears and Crocodile Tears
By: Noah Eaton
7/27/04

The owl has left the parliament,
a seconal opera has taken precedence,
horseradish eyeliner fine-tuning common sense,
and karma cancels out,
they announce the kettle's been called black,
their Slim-Fast apple-polish politesse,
can't hide the frostburn behind the Tammy Faye,
and wild mood swings dowsed in champagne.

Have you ever heard your mother say,
"Don't think there are no crocodiles,
because the water is calm, my child."
Mercury is in the water we drink,
in the Bechtel trenchcoat puppet pageant they preach,
well, take a peek behind the veil,
see the machines of their ideas countervail,
holograms of a filthy obscene memory prevail,
working out the kinks of a monster.

Listen and be warned,
my friend,
a needle wrapped in a rag,
will be found in the end.
Run for cover,
when elephant's fight,
only the grass dies.

Haste makes waste,
little brooks make great rivers,
the lies that break under your skin,
can make you shiver,
the trumpet shoots the valium through,
how long have we been subdued?
"They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country,
and our people, and neither do we."
is their amplified Shut-up-a-thon derby,
but when two elephants fight, only the ants suffer...

Listen and be warned,
my friend,
a needle wrapped in a rag,
will be found in the end.
Talk does not cook rice,
compassion and forgiveness are acts,
can you practice what you preach?

Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all that you fear.
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
are all that appear.

There's a whole lot of meat,
but not a lot of potatoes,
the favorite sons are locked away,
within motor oil walls and asbestos,
sure, faith is the very first thing,
you should pack in a hope chest,
you shouldn't wear it on your sleeve,
you shouldn't wear it like a blue dress,
Faith is not belief, faith is active,
it's most precious blood, not a unilateral enterprise...

Listen and be warned,
my friend,
a needle wrapped in a rag,
will be found in the end.
There goes the mouse,
why is there reason to be afraid?

Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all that you fear.
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
are all that appear.

Listen and be warned,
my friend,
a needle wrapped in a rag,
will be found in the end.
Elephants never forget,
so why can't they remember?

Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all that you fear.
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
are all that appear.
Elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all you remember these years,
elephant ears and crocodile tears,
is all that you fear.

"You'll find something that's enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don't receive you
You should turn yourself around and come back home" MB20

Noah, you are a wonder!!
Your writing has evolved to such a level I can't believe..
it's amazing...your talent, and the way you think.
Keep writing....I'll keep reading.
