Can it be true?
Waking with a stutter
Treasures stacking on the floor
To later find frustrated sketches
Tired bones, white blood cells in baskets
Is the core of my soul headed for
What the butchers throw to science
Knotted, pasted-on waxed energy?

Was my womanhood uncounted?
Did I wander about with hands of time?
Or did I bury bones like a dog
Remembering drips of soft reasons

School children teased my lipstick
My sweetheart teased my name
Who was the false artist?
In the old movie theater, on Main?

Sage waves, gusty wind, filling sales
Of Bibles...very good...sirens to
Sponge down the sidewalk
Will shift workers hear the bell
Time to go...warming my plate
At the bridge where I started

I’m still unfolding codes my mom drew
Feeling vulnerable in my cubical
To me, for me, the song of critics, are sweet music
But, do I still have time, to eat those fruits
The train shrugs, cuz I am late, but waits
I forgot my purse

Standing on the church steps, of exotic misfortune
Counting every mirror, plastering holes in my skin
Shedding the braces on my teeth
Flipping eggs over easy
A trick I’m still trying to get right

Glints of paper whirling in the forehead of time
Coaxing me to far away meadows
Waving Good Morning
I don’t want to go
Standing my ground…
I want to learn how to play chess
Wash my windows
Finish crocheting that afgan
Encourage my kids
To dine at oak tables…thoughtful tables

Donate symmetry to good will
Tick…tick…tick
Time dances a sturdy ballet
Keeping an eye on the music
Where the sky goes walking
Scrapping possibility from a new
Painting on foot

They say I’m wrong
There are no symphonic mountains
But I still get my nails done
Buy a new white Victorian dress…

You see, somhow…
Lakes, hills, valleys, understand
That God’s front porch is a glue pot
Of windswept canvases
In my opinion
Tick…tick…tick

I am a part of this struggle
Great moments do get around
Ask your neighbors
Facts tell the whole story
By design…from which I’ll retire
Soon
My 401k will never know the difference
