We met eyes
when the leaves reappeared;

the trees blushed pink
as they discovered their nudity,

and i hold dearly now
that first kiss,
under the umbrella
of the rain's promenade;

the leaves masquerade,

their colors, the collatoral
as the trees lay the foundation;

summer ends now;

as the moon drifts
between the somber branches,
the tones of a new season
about to inherit the nightsky;

but you are a man
not a leaf;

i am a woman
not a mapletree,

and though you bled with love
right through me,
your myriad of color
taking possession of
my monochromatic heart,

i am worn now with second guessing,
watching your twists and turns
through these kaleiodscope eyes,

dazzled by the brilliance of your pallete,
wishing now you could shed the superficial,

realizing there is
something to be said
for the perpetual truth
of the evergreen.
