If I could just find a good book
Perhaps the words would get me hooked
Into forgetting
I realize that I’m to blame
That every title looks so lame
So I sit fretting
Another night with no one there
An endless search for one to care
It’s getting so tough
To silence these lonely screams
Simply existing on dreams’s
No longer enough

But down the hall

There’s the glow of candlelight
And two lovers greet the night
With loving embrace
And as she yields to his touch
He whispers he’s wanted so much
Just to kiss her face
And their lovers’ melody
Echoes with such poignancy
It should crumble stone
Yet each note that hits my ears
Brings an ache to drown in tears
I am so alone.

But down the hall

I fix a drink and wear a frown
Spend some time choosing a gown
No eyes but mine will see
Surrounded by emptiness
I’m a stranger to happiness
Afraid this is to be
The endless story of my life
No one’s lover, no one’s wife
And again I find
I cannot do enough drinking
To provide escape from thinking
That he once was mine

But down the hall

Dear Lord gal.....you know, I have been there, done that, and it at times seems to never get easier but still we continue to go on.

Gawd....this aches.  Hugs to you sweet one.

Remember Laura, that what you think of as bliss just down the hall may exist only in your thoughts. Things behind that other door may be wonderful, or they may be hopelessly tangled, or dreary with the ennui of endless discontent. When we're down we see everybody else as up, and all too often it isn't so.

But whatever happens, I hope you keep writing these beauties...you've become one of the people here whose work I read on sight. I didn't have time this morning, but when I saw your name on two poems, I made time.

GS & nakdthoughts: I wish none of us knew the reality of this... but yes... we go on. *S* Thank you so much, kind ladies. *S*

Jamie: But whether there's bliss down the hall or simply an act that makes it seem so... that doesn't erase the alone. *S* Thank you so very much... seeing your name on my work is always a treat!!! *S*

GR: pearls of sadness... I like that image very much... Thank you! *S*

PS: Thanks for reading! *S*

I don't know what's worse being all alone and hurting, or when you are with someone and you are still alone...either way I guess, it hurts...
this is so expressed so well, I love the italicized line.....it says something different each time....your talent is showing beautifully lady

jellybeans: I'd love a life with better options than those. *S* Thank you so much, my friend... the verses had sat around not fitting with one another... that line you like showed up to pull it together. *S*
