Men in khakis go through the routine
Hope still rides road pictures on screens
there is a silent crash in one's backyard
out comes evidence of ceramic shards...

A plane or asteroid that cleaned a field
added a ring to farmer's corn yield
caused the grass to reflect ardent green
men in khakis shoot through their routine.

Through moments of coincidental crashes
Hope rests on our ability to seek dialogue
live with diversity,
if democracy allows tests to succeed...

in an abandoned field after the Russian revolution
in a Siberian field so far away from Bolshevik mobs
held under duress while young mothers came to term in cellars
Moon rock, Martian piece ...there are quiet nights!
