in the shadows

0 posted 2004-08-29 12:22 PM

When the shadows turn to daylight
I leave my dreams upon the ground,
staggering to wakefulness,
stumbling
to catch the sad parade,
shedding threads
that came unraveled
in the cheap and restless night,
the penance
a life sentence
of chipping away at time,
the haunting
what-if-insteads,
the passion driven heartbreak
just a memory
that sometimes comes around;
I might believe in love,
I guess,
if love believed in me
but I've been inside the fire
where love's blindness fades
into reality,
where living's just a low rent crib,
where each day blurs the same,
where life and death have meaning,
but only in the abstract
and only wild flowers are free.

I understand this feeling, but I still believe in love...it is one of the only thing worth believing in!

Then the solution is simple, isn't it?

Be a wildflower.

I am, at least part of the time -- enough to see that it is the way.

A truly wonderful poem but I wonder, icebox, are wildflowers really free?  They depend on water and soil and somewhere or other weeds are advancing on their domain.  They can move but only if the wind blows their seeds somewhere else.  Free?  Yes, just like us. Just a thought.

You made me actually stop and think for a while about this and that is something!  LOL, I actually don't believe in fate, chance, etc. maybe that is the problem?

There are times when I feel I have walked
this path.  But I think you probably know
it better than I ever will.  A good one to
think and reflect on,  thanx!
