i haven't written anything in two years...i've been a little dead.
[poetically speaking]
so here's goes nothing.

*instead (ten times a day)*

i sit alone in the dark instead
reading books i've already read
re-learning lessons i've already learned
smudging the pages i've already turned

i sit alone in the dark instead
of facing a world long since dead
to me. nothing left to give,
nothing to get; why bother to live?

alone in the dark
ten times a day
in search of my heart while
the clock chimes away.
i write in the dark,
ten rhymes away;
just shy of greatness...
or peace of mind anyway.
over and over
i sit alone in the dark
do it over again
ten times a day.

i sit alone in the dark instead
and watch tomorrow bury its ugly head
i count up all the reasons why
i should get up off my ass and try,

but i sit alone in the dark instead
spitting up the life that i've been fed.
i'm dead to you, but my heart still bleeds...
so i know it's still there; i know it still needs.

alone in the dark
ten times a day
in search of my heart while
the clock chimes away.
i write in the dark,
ten rhymes away;
just shy of greatness...
or peace of mind anyway.
over and over
i sit alone in the dark
do it over again
ten times a day.

i sit alone in the dark instead
gazing at the storm clouds' stead
the thunder echoes through my heart
and we yearn to freefall through the dark.

i sit alone in the dark instead
ten times a day, just to do it again.

nobody's future lies in the dark
so i lie to myself, and i lie in the dark.
'cause you still look at me
ten times a day
and i still have no answer...
still ten rhymes away

do it over again

it's not that the future is near or far...
the future's just so grim.

Ethan!  It's really good to see you....I've been wondering how you are.  A painful poem, but a poem none the less....filled with emotion, emotion that helps you explain the place you are in.  Many have felt that darkness and can relate...I know I have.  Keep on writing!

Hi, there, don't think I've read you before.  I'll have to plow through the archives now because this poem has peeked my interest.  This write is kind of sad...I know these feelings and you have gotten them across in a unique way.   .......jo

I'll give you ten times a day for another ten years to have you write to me at least ten lines why you haven't been writing for awhile.

It's so good to see your name again...

Ethan, it comes when it's ready...
but sometimes reading other people's poetry helps

I understand about the lapse, I've had quite a few myself

good to see you here

You say "here goes nothing" and I say ... "What, are ya nuts man?"  That was an awesome read and I am smiling big in seeing your name here.  Been way too long but worth the wait if I have to measure it in ten times the value.  Now let's see what else your pen has in it.  Loved the read and smiled huge in just seeing your name.
