Listening to every heart

Ice Beckons

Ol’ man Winter, he stands still at the fore
his finger cast upon streaming water’s shore
for too cool this earth, a month we shall remember, as
most agree, August looked askance, North

[Except Vancouver, where nary a fan of cool did blow…
for firsthand, from fevered brow, I know it to be so.]

Should be the time, this, of summery dog days
yet fall nips the nose of the laziest dog in lay,
who perks to change, noses the air, as if to say
what ol’ man from north is coming this way?

Ol’ man Winter, what secrets hide up his sleeve,
for too soon all of summer’s trees shall weep,
and lay down to earth all of summer’s shade
and lay down to earth summer’s shade so deep;

to feel the prickle of the cool, cool morn,
wondering of the month in which I awoke
could it be, September came, perhaps October 1st?
Nay, ‘tis not, ‘tis not, but my August shall keep

and like lone leaf, I feel a chill within me seep
as ol’ man Winter’s hoary finger creeps
and ties the tides of one day’s warmth
of summer, sun, grass and glade
and whippoorwill's song in summer’s shade.

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...

Awesome poem, SIL.  I've been feeling the underlying changes approaching now ever since the blue moon...more than any other year.  Your descriptions are really lovely.  Hope all's well......love ya, jo

It might be August, but I just went outside and I can see my breath....will be a "very cool morn'" come daylight tomorrow...

"prickle of cool" that line keeps running through my head...

Very nice poem,
Love the arrangement....

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

Can I tell you how happy I am up here?  It is raining, cool, and I am so excited I did a dance in the rain with the rest of the people here right outside the mall.  I guess you gravitate to a city because of many of its offerings, but I did not realize how much I didn't like heat until this year, or how much I loved rain.  Alaska calls me next vacation   Nicely done on this rainy day Karilea.

the coming of a season between the last breaths of another, how this just touches
the senses in awe and longing
very lovely creation woven here

Artistic poetry.  Your words paint the scenery; your pictures proclaim them true!
Beautifully expressed!!

It's raining here and you could feel the coolness of fall for sometime now...The summer heat has been wonderful but I love the golden beauty of autumn...A vision of beauty is this poem...
