Summer is ending, sanguine tints
In greens. Subtle,
But I note the changes.
*
Branches bangled jade, once stuffed
With summer sugar, wane to tart
As August waxes towards September.
*
Bitter, tastes best to darkness;
Relishing the leaves now longer,
Whispering salacious needs;
The old man overcomes the warnings
Of the matron saint of light;
Who abhors his greed for sour....
*
But she cannot bridle
The stampeding clock
Her manna, running dry;
Lack of honey
Erases sweet smiles from surfaces,
And no longer can her children-leaves
Adjust, frowning...they take
Shallow, smaller sucks
From a mother in decline;
*
Who nourished them all summer,
Before her breast, began to dry.

I know you write for yourself
and everyone here, Ford...

but this one, I'm claiming,
for several reasons...

so, Sir, consider yourself libraried,
and a special spotlight shines...

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...

Wow,  this has such depth and beauty to it.
Every line is superbly written...and you have
said it all so eloquently!

I love the times of change...you express it so beautifully.  Your love of nature and your ability to express that love through poetry, humbles me.  I'm so glad you share your words here at Passions!

Ice, I don't know if I have told you before or not, but if I haven't...you are one of my favorite writers here.  You always impart beauty and/or wisdom in your writing, and it is always impeccably written.  This is a wonderful poem.   ....jo

This was so amazingly written and needs to go to the top again, for those who may have missed it.

Very very awesome!

What a way you have -- like the bards of old, elegant in the creation of beauty.

Sorry, I have fallen behind in acknowledging replies, that in no way implies a lack of thankfulness....

Sunny shine
I am shy of spotlights but love libraries.....

Some of those leaves are from too much rain, at least here in Pa. But I did notice a bit of  red in the leaves of a sumac, that visual prompted this poem...

P.S.
I love that word, to me it is better than perfect.....

Magnus
All I can say to your reply is Thank you...
Eloquence happens sometimes, but not very often in a country boys poetry...

Martie
And I love in yours (your poems) and that same love of nature....I can feel that in your work, even the poems that seem to be not of what we consider "nature" most of the time...the natural world is in them all, I can feel it in your words.....

iliana-jo
What a wonderful compliment, to be placed as one of favorites....
Considering the world class poetry on this site , I am flattered...

Froggy
I am glad I have given voice to these words so that you could hear them....

Inky
No, she does not cry, her children will nourish her in the coming year, as she has given life to them, so will they sustain her, by the quarter inch of humus they lay at her feet...I was a bit anthropomorphic in these metaphors, but in a true human sense, I understand your tears....

LeeJ
Thanks for reading and the nice reply..thanks for the bump...

Susan
The beauty is already there, all around us...I do call on old muses, I think they got unemployed when free verse took over the poetry universe...I am just trying to keep them alive.....

Startime
"symphony" I like that, that is just what it is...It always is playing in one form or another...Time for the fall orchestra to start tuning up...

Thank you, everyone...Your comments are encouraging and delightful...
