Habakkuk Chapter 1
3: Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4: Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

She lays there,
Nothing else to do
Nowhere else to go,
Her bruises more than few
Busted lip still in red flow,
And he laughed at her.

She cried there,
Lost all her childhood years
Lost all her womanly charms
Ruled by a pimp she fears
And constantly causes harm,
And he cheats from her.

She ebbs there,
Nothing else to strive
No way to overcome,
Barely living or alive
Only broken heartstrings to strum,
And no one avenges her.

The primped up pimp dandy
Takes a touch of nose candy
And turns from this laughing matter.
From the depths her anger swells
And calls to the heaven or hell
To either that claim and avenge her
Neither place would cause her alarm
Only in the living world does her harm
Let which ever wants claim her.

Away walks the dandy dealer
Money and sad life stealer
As the shadows gather for her death
And before her stands a haunt
Asking her what does she want,
“Justice” was said in last breath.
And silently she passed away
Leaving the haunt to find a way
To resolved injustice she left.

As the pimp began to cross the street
He found a new destiny for him to meet,
The haunt took hold of his shoulder
And his body stopped growing colder
Then came the speeding ambulance
He didn't stand a snowball’s chance
As the cold left terror in his mind
Instantly shattering his spine.
They call him a lucky man
Till they found cocaine in his hand,
They saved his life but not his brain
Crippled with no relief from the pain,
Stabilized then sent to prison
For a long list of crimes he had done.
But he was still a pretty boy
And helpless became prison’s toy,
Put to the inmate’s wicked use
The object of sexual abuse.

A little girl stopped at play
Turned to see a shadow fade,
Remembering a changed day
And a dieing wish once made.
Years had rolled back
The time was of her childhood
Before her world turned black
Before the evil took the good.
Mommy and daddy didn’t fight
He didn’t go out and drink at night.
Every night prayers thanked the shade
And vowed no mistakes be made,
To be the little girl at play
As long as daddy would stay.

one call only shake in dispair for so many lives which have been used.

This was heartwrenching...I'm so sorry for anyone who must go through something like this.  Very sad...very sad.

It also reminded me of those God forsaken pimps presently in Florida, taking advantage of all those folks who have nothing left, raising prices on everything...Where is Jeb Bush...every single one of those animals should have their pictures and names published for all the world to see, not to mention, held accountable for such unthinkable crimes.  People should hammer Floridas politicians and demand they put these theives in jail!

Thank you Professor, and good morning...we need to be reminded that in reality, something has to be done about these things...and nothing will be done, until people stand together saying, enough is enough.

God bless and happy Friday

This is strong and sad Gloom...and like LeeJ stated, it's all too common and we only hear about the ones that make it to the news...Another aspect of the reality is the folks that know it's going on and do nothing....it's dangerous to butt in sometimes, and can have lethal results..but everyone should butt in, bring back up if need be....I will from now on...if ya don't, you end up with a nose like mine...

Well Professor,

I was feeling a little low and read this poem along with the responses. As I move into the later years of life I see that the story of human ignorance, suffering and indifference just continues to go on. I wonder how many times do we have to learn the same lessons over and over again. I don't want to go into this any deeper or I will be here all day. It boils down to this:

Each of us must make choices. Sometimes the choices suck. Each of us must take responsibly for the results of those choices and with a little help from those around us and our faith seek newer and better options by seizing opportunites that bring something positive to this life. For each of us shall reap what we sow, sooner or later

Now let us all go and add a little sunshine to this world.

I had to read Habuakkuk after this one...
and yet 3:17-19

justice and mercy - two things that so often don't seem to work when and the way we want them to - it makes me think of Gandalf on the Fellowship of the Ring - telling Frodo that somehow the mercy of Bilbo was a good thing for somehow Gollum had a part to play - whether for good or evil

oh how people suffer

I have to add to my comment - I know two people who when they were young decided to do this to make money - a girl and guy - young and stupid and intensely dysfunctional to have done such a thing. I know them as older adults and the pain they have suffered by their choices - it was not a drug addicted choice, nor did they become drug addicts - but knowing them as older people - they are scarred.  I think about what justice has been for them, for their choices and it has been pain. I think about the mercy that has come their way through the spouses they have today and it has strengthened them and brought much healing.

To sit by and watch - today - even though they have changed their lives - its painful
I cannot imagine the hell it must be for those who live the reality of your poem...we long for justice...and even with justice, there will be pain

'Tis a feat, to start with the least profitable prophet, and end with a worthy poem.....
