It was a long slow freeze.
It had taken what seemed
like an eternity to arrive.
The temperatures fluctuated
never holding steady enough
for the conditions needed.

The cold had finally settled in
finding permanent refuge
there, where the light
could no longer try
to shine its warmth.

As time passed
the layers thickened,
steadily forming
until at times it would
be to hard to walk
upon the surfaces
that allowed thought
to    s l i p     away.

Even the mirror could tell
how time had taken its toll.
The colors had become so faded,
so very lifeless.

Crystallized images
captured in a reflection
no longer recognizable
as the picture of
what once was, but instead
what had become.

The spring had found
its own reason
to delay
the coming season,
but as all things
must come to pass,

so must come the thaw.

It was a long, slow thaw.
It had taken what seemed
like an eternity…to arrive.

{reposted memory and reminder...
the seasons DO come around...}

It's better than I could have planned..
it's made me who I am...

donna, this was amazing...very well thought out...it felt like a song waiting for music

Very enchanting and so true, so very true
and the colors are enhanced through all things

I can not wait until Winter when I have more time to read, as I miss so many poems I shouldn't - this being one I am glad I found today.
