Laughing whiskey hugs the gentle man
Rowing lateral, God’s Madison Avenue
Gets through each hour, under a limbo stick
Wedging missing pieces into best known myths
Like a beggar with torch lights
Giving his entire body to science

Ambition cuts the birthday cake of wisdom
Dropping fire out of the mouth of Jerusalem
Waiting in line, mowing a lawn of coral sand
Drinking camp coffee, reading the grounds
Pasted to the walls of caves
By Tibetan monks…who had Close Encounters?
And lived to speak of it…

What madness cuddles beside me?
Incurable and sanitized, like pearly white window frames
Breathing peace from bitter depths of unspoken shame
Discovering iambics of summer’s school and free libraries
Freshly baked bread worships “I can’t believe it’s not butter”
While glass thickens on the eyes of hunger

Bubble wrap dragging me toward some power of oils
Grasping beliefs…without lifting voices
About the designs of ourselves in tactical waves
Voices of Greek athletes, lifting broken dolls
To the Gods, weeping and afraid
That History will never bury its battered corpse
Refusing its invitation, glance from a table
Filled with photographs of elderly diplomats

Look…there, how water, cuts through bedrock
Layered thoughts of shapes grow calligraphy
Where past compiles, counterparts of Zen meditation
Running with offspring…and the whimpers of infancy
It is said, to save a child, is to save the world
So I build a shrine over McDonald’s
In honor of the new “Happy Meals” for adults

Perhaps Heaven could be right here on Earth?

It is here, if we let it be.

Your poetry is so unique -- your kitchen has implements like no other, and what you cook there has a flavor all its own.
