Lower

Down, lower down
I sink, into the darkness
Almost welcoming the pain
Since at least that I feel
Nothing else permeates
The darkness, the sorrow
Light is a distant memory
I’ve forgotten so much
Too much

Into the lower levels
Of this endless hell
Feeling nothing
Responding mechanically
Like an automaton
Programmed to do simple tasks
Complex thought evades
A welcome surcease
Of aching

Sinking, falling silently
My mouth unable to scream
Eyes now dry of tears
No shuddering sobs
Rack my frame, I’m quiet
Silent as the grave
Impassive, unresponsive
Except to pain’s touch
That I remember
Still

Fading, far from view
My thoughts ebbing away
Leaving just a body
With nothing inside
A soul cowering in darkness
Seeking a way upward
But without light
I’m lost in despair

There’s always a lower level
If I ever reach the base
Will there be anything left
Of me to rise again

Marsha

Inspired by Suthern’s Grief series, which is stunning work

Tomorrow is another day I don't know what it holds
but I can face the future with courage brave and bold

reminds me of how no matter the despair, or how low, there is always a loving hand, waiting there, even if only to touch our fingers, to bring us up from the depths of darkness...all we have to do is reach out...
wonderfully done

"if only to touch fingers"
reaching out,
extending
for understanding
invisible
between
connected by effect
no range beyond
the grasp

inspired by LeeJ's response to yours

Oh, my friend... this would have my admiration regardless... that you say I had some small part in its creation fills me with gratitude. *S*

Beautiful, painful work... I know you know this well... I know also how hard you fought to rise again... and you soar. *S*

Mushy my dearest friend, I know this came right from your heart and you've worded this feeling so beautifully.

I know, after hitting the lowest level, you'll rise again as gracious and lovingly, because that's the way you are, dear friend.

Hugs to you, Titia

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow
