the cannon songs my najaf
do they make you cry
is the music of your wound
a song of the morning dying

where are your dancers
why do they wear black
and eat of the dust
why do they make angels

out of the red mud
and burn their skin
to singe the noses
of dreamers of allawi

where are your poems
of maqtada my najaf
why do the women groan
like birthing mothers

with the pain of empty wombs

my dear friend....it is sad, very sad to know that people must suffer so...

Hugs sent your way hoping you know there are many who stand by your thoughts, prayers and emotions for these people....our sisters and brothers.  Love to you

I was beginning to write something about Najaf this morning, but the words just wouldn't flow. I'm glad they did from yours, DS. It's a tragic scene, and you've written of it with great sensitivity. (and sensitivity is a good thing, despite what some recent media meanies have suggested)

Painful, sad song of sorrow, well penned.  Almost as if written of old, songs sung of past sorrows in ages gone.

Good write..it's interesting however..how this is "holy ground" to all, including us, with everyone but the morons fighting for nothing against the wishes of the majority of the Iraqi people...?....

Every line of your poem makes a new picture. You're astonishingly good!
