Driftin Apart           one woman's blues

your man comes home each night
a routine lonely truth
as you recall
when he spent time with you.
you keep longing
for the love you once had
you can remember
when he was the man.

now it's so hard to give him your heart
yeah it's so hard cause you're driftin apart.

you leave with some girlfriends
it's a saturday night
you drink a few
to hide from your life
but you're unhappy
the clock's callin you home
to a lonely place
where you don't want to go.

you keep gettin bold offers
you prentend to decline
ah here comes a new one
the smilin happy kind.
the bar room is full
the action is quick
you can't get around
your mind's hidden wish.

he's straight up and young
he's treatin you right
you decide to stay
it's an early night.
you hear him say things
you love to hear
the same things you heard
for so many years.

the moment's filled with magic
you dance and you touch
the perfect young stranger
you want him so much.
he fills the spaces
where lonliness reels
you're lost again wishin
he was all you could feel.

you know that it's wrong
but you want it no less
his lips receive your kiss
he gives you his best
your mind's whirling round
his passion and youth
has got your heart pumpin
the old becomes new.

you finally run for shelter
you're own empty nest.
everyone is sleepin
but you still can't rest.
how could you guess it
escaped with your soul
but truth or disguise
you're not feelin so old.

on with tommorrow
back on routine time
he'll still come home
and pay you no mind.
but you've got a secret
you've never been untrue
but you know the difference
between hell and heaven's rules

and it's so hard to give him your heart
yeah it's so hard now you're drifin apart.

Ain't doin nothin at all
Just answerin the call
Kinda driftin away from it all~~~~~

Wow,
would love to hear you singing this.
A terrible situation, but you brought it to light...
Well done.

Thank you Roniece, CG & Maureen I appreciate the comments and the fact that you could relate. Life can be cruel and kind all at the same time.    Strange sometimes.

Sounds like a song I can hear it in my mind, very well written.

Life is filled with so many variables...
Timeless,  from ages past...all still the
same...the quest for happiness and feeling
wanted...particularly as we age...

Thanx Eric,  you have done very well with
this!

I found this so very real Eric. As you wrote through the mind of the woman...I was so impressed at your insight.
Human needs never vary, man to woman, or age to age...they just develope the ability to control the impulse, and the strength to return in wonder.
Great write.
