"The greatest show on earth"
it read
a banner painted splashed across
golden with a black inset:
"The better yet to see you with?"

So I wondered what that meant.
I scratched my noggin pondering
the eyes that dotted "tees" converse
blue ice neckties
(just for me?)
mental notes of purity
with ball-peen hint of 'vote-for-me'
as the ole red, white, & blue,
glitter fell from up above
with silver in the mix:

"spool two,"

a soothing voice blew:

"camera one"

deep

"take cue"

(a hinting of)

some urgency before the

"zoooooooom"

the voice assured the crew--

mmm hmm.

"beautiful!"

"Now--camera two..."

as the band began to play
let-the-love-rain-down-on-me
and I'll be damned
that can't be right
Wait, I laughed, that can't be right--
The WHO?

I gagged.

The Kid's Alright

oh-is-nothing-sacred-moan

"this is all too smooth"

I'm old

so

"smack me damn and kiss my throat
before the knife of subsidy
drags me to my shaking knees
behind elections martinized
as I pull a trigger twice--
why not just say yes to both
since thirds will not...result...one...loaf..."

"Kiss me!
I'm about to vote!"
(I wish a camera would take note)

"I'm sorry folks
it seems that we
have lost the (temporarily,)
so stay with us (abacus-ness)
while we add the totals that
we think should mighta been."

I think I should confess--amend.
(I have lost some faith m'friends.)
Let me put a token in,
pressing
spin again...

I get

two-hearts-purple-one-part-gin

("The sky is falling!" cried the hen.)

The rooster sold insurances,
as I dug deep into my purse'
wishing for another coin
humming "obla-di" (the verse)

la la hoping life goes on...

*  *  *

and that's it folks, my one, my only, damned if you do and damned SHAME if y'don't poem for the election year!

This is WAY to good to just be about the stupid election. What a ride. I loved it completely.

I want to vote!

Oh well,
at least I can still read good poetry

but WITH you, not at
yep, if you do 'n if you don't
maybe the end result is the same?
that's OK, I'll vote again anyway, hoping to the very end

Kace? Check your e mail.

and as a sort of explanation to you all, I'd fallen asleep watching the convention, and my husband woke me from a lucid weird dream blaring the Who. So if the poem seems spacey, it's cause it was. (and I just added the voices of the camera crew for artistic effect)

My life is ludicrous.

Actually, for those who read you, your life can be luscious, as opposed to ludicrous.  Who else [well, maybe Kacy] takes the sublime to new highs?  You can wink at Kacy, the fact is...it is voices such as YOURS that we need, as is Kacy's, who tell folk, GO VOTE!!!

Too many sit on their behinds letting the world/nation/government/station take care of itself...but that is NOT what our beginnings were all about.

I VOTE.

And everyone who reads you, and Kacy, should, too.  I don't care if I'm on the opposite or same side as you...I will NOT ask your politics, nor your religion.  I will LISTEN if you care to share, but I will NOT impose MY way upon yours.

THAT is what WE, US, is all about.

GREAT for this, m'friend.  I'm so very glad KACY inspired this.

I feel you aptly capture
the stuff that give pols rapture
We're so confused by rhetoric
It's really hard to give a heck
But 'tis our right to ballot
So hope no foul gets call out

Well said, despite your demurring comments to Kacy!  KJ

gee whiz, Kari.

You didn't snort some of that glitterstuff, didja?

But I tease.

Normally I'm game for a discussion of politics, but not this time. So yes, I'm just telling everybody to take their opinions to the booth this year.

(and boy do you sound like me up there--talking to my son and his anti-america buddies--chuckle, mom got a bit a vehement too, saying, that's EXACTLY why you need to be involved!)

sheesh.

I keep meeting people who are so much like me, it has me questioning my Dad's "leave" activities while he was in the Navy. (Grin..could be...my life is ludicrous.)

Hugs, you.

and thank you KJ--the political stuff embarrasses me, as you can tell. And this was mild too, I can really get carried away, so thanks for the reassurance.

I CAN get carried away, as well as anyone else...although I try to choose to keep my mouth shut, because I often find my foot in it...and yet? I would like to make my vote count.  As for the glitterati...NOPE...never did, y'know, as P.S. is my sister...

You see, I'm from the very OLD school of training that one doesn't talk about politics, religion, or sex in open groups.   [Gee, where better to discuss them?]  Although I will bow to the reasoning behind this, I still try to refrain from openly heated discussions which much too often lead to argumentative debate [and which is more suited, as we all know, in our discussion area] still, from a poetic stance, this poem ROCKS.  For either side.  THAT, m'dear, is why I'm so proud of you!

serenity

Thanks for this...and the reminder that life goes on...but that we can't expect it to go on very well without some legs pumping the wheels in some sort of rhythm.  Maybe life is just someones idea of a reality series.

You are such and interesting soul, ya know?...and also, you make me smile...I need that badly!  Thanks!

Watch you vote?  Sure, I'll take an 8 X 10 glossy.

Your cynicism is tremendously well displayed here, Karen.  I feel the same way and with all the talking heads and misinformation, it just makes me sick.  I'm taken back to a poem icebox posted a week or so ago about the dying of a nation.  We have to do what we can and voting is most important on a local level....so many times things get slipped right by us on the ballot.  I think I am going to write in Obama...but then, again, with all that new-fangled electronic voting....how do you write in anybody???  lol  Great poem, Karen!

Actually Kacy and Karen kind of remind me of Siamese twins, joined sometimes at the brain Well, this will certainly be an interesting election that is for sure.  I know who I would pick myself, and I also think George Bush was being supported in the heat of the moment, and now suffers from the actions he did that were sanctioned, no?  Ah, what do I know.  Great poem lady Serenity.

Thanks all for making me feel more at ease 'bout this one--I don't generally do the political stuff but found my sis Kacy downright inspiring!

Special hugs to m'lady! (and thanks for the reassuring e mail about the homeschool thing, too, yer a doll!)
