walking the surreal

moods shift
as the sands
of the Sahara

blown hither and thither

mounding in joy
hollowing in sorrow

persuaded by the winds of circumstance

carried away with the currents of happenstance

ever changing
a mosaic of emotion
each dawn
a new path defined

yesterday’s way masked
obscured by endless shifting
into a new day’s direction

ever flowing
ceaseless transformation
nomadic inclinations

never settling into rest –

never knowing an oasis –

lost in its wandering . . .

restlessness

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

restless... is such a difficult thing to describe and contain with words...
I think you did it well

Oops! Perhaps this was not the best poem for me to read right now as I'm heading off to lala land! lol But I will tell you this, Dear Susan ~ you have described restlessness in a poetically beautiful manner!

Thank you all for your replies.  I don't know that I'm 100% happy with this poem, it leaves me thinking it needs tweaking, but I'm uncertain as to what is not right about it.  If it reads well, then I'm glad, but still, I wonder . . . hmmmmm.

Well done...the swirling desert drape...ever changing, ever thirsting to be sated.

Yeah... it's 4 AM here right now. I did sleep two hours this week though. Oh what a wonderful two hours it was...

You explained it perfectly!

A very good definition
of wandering feet.

Enjoyed this, Susan.

ever flowing

never knowing an oasis –

lost in its wandering . . .

These lines say it all...to me...
this is the feel that I sometimes have
when the weather calls to me,  and says
"come out, let's play"...

And, for whatever reason...I can not...
THEN is when I feel what you have written
so well.
