Dreams brought her to his arms only to be whisked
away by fitful awakenings. Her scent still lingered
upon her pillow as he hugged it tenderly,
ever delicately,  though she no longer lay there.

What ill could be brought within a sealed message,
one of doom or lost devotion, scorn or simply just
a single word of goodbye?

Alcohol would not bolster his courage for he did not
drink....the medicine cabinet no longer held that which he
needed to calm the anxiety of an unknown. Fear weighed
heavily on the shoulders of this man.

Even the winds spoke to him, their gusts swaying
the branches of a tree resilient for over a century of rings
beneath the oak bark.

Fitful was his rest, dreaming of horrid things.  Events
that had not swirled within his mind for all of his life.
Yet now...he braced against the howl of a mid-summer
storm.

He sat quietly at the credenza, his last works of poetry
lying untouched since the click rang so loudly in his ears.
Sipping quietly, slowly of a cup of fresh beans...
pondering what might lie within the still unopened letter.

Sire, I beg of thee...give to me thy sword and shield that I
might conquer the foes of my fears. For they await the
break of dawn to swarm over my wretched soul....
and I can be but a slave to their wielded swords, as they
fall upon my body,  my life draining slowly away...

Possessing new strength, a sharpened knife cleaves
the letter’s seal.  A lingering tear said much of his
feelings as the end is met and the sword withdrawn
from the now lifeless envelope.

For, inside the envelope lay a mystery, a rhyme written
by her hand...A light smudge obscuring her name
as words came to his eyes, his breath rapid, shallow.

Where lies the light of shallow shoals, of rivers rampant
rage?   Where lives the lamp upon the porch, there lies
the wanted page.  For on the eve of twice the moon,
a call shall grace thy ears.  And whence the sound is
softly heard....thy will shall quell thy fears...as my doorstep
holds only the shadow of one man.

Always...a memory, a smile...

Alana...

Sun, don't ya just love it when some of your
own trickery is used against you?  Go on?

Fear not fair maid,  for thy eyes shall see
the end of night...soon!

Didn't have a chance to read the first ones...
wishing I had, now!
Goodness, you're so great at this!
*sigh*  SO great.

The suspense!  And I actually have to wait for it!  Usually I read the end of the book first!  Oh, yes, I am that kind of girl.  Waiting upon the edge of my seat, dear Sir--

Barry, you wrote the ending of love gone wrong, superbly.

This was just too hard to take, but you had me all the way.

*Bravo Sir*

Wonderful.  No wonder that the click rang so loud.  Now there must be a follow up to this, BJ!  There is bound to be another call. This is going to haunt me tonight.  *hugs*....jo

Magnus darling man, my heart flutters like a bird in my chest, you’re not supposed to make me care about the fate of your characters darling man. But oh how I do, I swear if this isn’t a happily ever after, and I bet it isn’t, I shall be sobbing for a week.

Love it utterly, utterly, you truly are one of the most outstanding writers, well done my sweet friend

Off to read the rest xxx
