Ode to “Wordless Mondays”
Flashlights hanging on clotheslines
Pulling up morning
Long hours, low crawling through silent hills
Like a wounded tiger
Clawing its way toward a place painless

Backpacks pointing toward emergency rooms
Declined to drink, like human error
Full cans of spray paint
Hanging on to church words

Honed and conditioned by obstacle courses
Quick witted, clouds spring free
Racing across the aerials of suffering
Like sudden premonitions…hungry
Tearing me to shreds

Tears helped water the path
Silent shoulders defining touch
Loosing that once in a lifetime code
Horrors wave to the executioner
Teeth assessing the whole affair

On the threshold of a burning home
Blown out misery paints the art of loving
Tiptoeing beneath tossed-off sentences
Thus, one chance in hell to survive
The ice chests of a broken heart

Grasping the abstract
One unforgettable party…inviting me in
Interrupted by details, making it reality
Insurmountable enshrined military shoes
Prevents a mid-morning raid
Smoothing drawn perimeters
Watching closely
To absorb
Any tripping instinct
Catching me by surprise

Arresting my fainting head
Expressing simple opinions
Turning the toll into a single event...
One, I’m not likely to listen to again

Metallic musk was dressed to kill
Wrestling saltwater brine by the plateful
Hung beneath eight columns
Camcorders recording the entire event
For posterity

Interior streams pop open clarity
For the need to build a fence
Preventing any free ranging dogs
From chewing up my ill-prepared school bags
Ode to innocence...ode to wordless Monday Mornings
Ode to Small Town Girls
Pressing their faces against the glass
Of State lines...and a Board of Education

What a vision ..... wow.
The color of your words makes surely up for these "Wordless Mondays".
Incredible imagery.

You have turned "Grasping the abstract" into the fine art of vividly descriptive and highly creative writing!

WOW, I have never read anyone who was able to  use metaphor the way you do, Lee.
