Slick paper
Gone color of vellum,
Trapped between
Glass and mating;
Blank eyes staring
From picture brackets.
*
In jails of stiles
And rails; in gone world prisons
Barred, wooden-squared;
Fading snapshots speak out,
Shout that I must listen
And not argue with their words;
Which in early life
I heard as foolish prattle...
Now only a choir of photographs sing,
Mute choruses from my mantle.
*
Made reticent by death;
Yet still their images scream
(Out) short, but warning songs
In two-word silent messages...
*
Carpe Diem!

They can carry such meaning, if only we let
their thoughts come through our eyes and
unfold in our minds.
