She sat up straight in her high chair
flashing a saucy little smile,
and with spaghetti noodles dangling
from her tiny toes
that complemented the buttered french bread
she had stuck on her nose,
she laughed at the 6 o'clock news,
and the really dumb questions
adults asked about the world.

For her, the answers were already there
in the spilled building blocks
scattered carefully on the livingroom floor.

The building blocks that spelled out
the pre-schoolers golden rule:

LOVE and KINDNESS=PEACE and HAPPINESS

for all who play together.

I smile at those beginner's building blocks,
and pray that I will see more of them
scattered 'round the world.

This is something I wrote about 5 years ago, after looking over some early photos of my daughter.
Sara is now graduating high school.

Thanks, Martie! It's been a long but wonderful road getting her from day 1 to this day.

So sweet.  Spaghetti has got to be one of the funnest foods to watch toddlers eat.  My fave pictures of my daughter are with spaghetti all over and the bowl on her head .

I too wish for peace, dear lady.  Perhaps someday wishes will truly come true.

Hugs -- Susan

This gives me such an awesome chuckle...as when I read the title, I thought, I should write about my daughter's first meal she fed herself. It was spaghetti. Then I get in and find it was about your daughter's spaghetti meal. I love how you related it to the hope of peace and the sensibility of it. A charming poem, with a powerful message. My daughter's 34 now.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

thanks to each of you!
VAS, write it, as every parent I've ever met seems to have a funny spaghetti story.

Last night's GRADUATION dinner was fun, and Sara was grinning (also shedding a few tears) all the way home from my friend's home, where the 'surprise' event took place, complete with cap and gown, minus pomp and circumstance.

Kacy,
Maybe you guys could re-enact that scene and post the pic! Please tell Sara how proud I am of her.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

LOL, Larry! Sara would never consent to a re-make of that one. Somewhere, I do have a photo of her first spaghetti encounter.
That is, if she hasn't destroyed it! LOL, she went into the photo misc box one day and threw out some photos she didn't want anyone to see. I chewed her out good, and reminded her those were MY photos.

Fun associated with wisdom, this is beautiful.
Congratulations also for Sara's graduation!
Sarah is also my own daughter's name. Living in Italy the spaghetti-challenge came early too. To watch Sarah eat has always been MY fun, because she really displayed all her pleasure in doing so! The "bon ton" was not on top of her interests! But insisting was necessary, despite the fun of the "today comics"!
Thank you for the smiles.
Love, Margherita

My daughter's middle name is Margaret. I'd love to read your spaghetti story. Maybe we should start a spaghetti-head thread? LOL
