Whew...done.

Last installment of "The Plot".

The Plot     (Part 3 - Final)

On through the mist the King and his guide
Over the fields they silently ride —
As the King’s prophecy rings in his ears,
He grows uneasy and compounds his fears —
An ambush he smells, so readies his sword
And prepares to battle the devious horde —
The trio that invaded his quietest sleep
And painted with crimson the walls of the keep —
Now ominous silence hangs in the air
As wary King approaches the lair.

There in a clearing out of the mist
Charges the soldier with axe in his fist —
Followed by magician who chants as he rides
A horse dark as coal, black cape at his sides.
The King draws his sword and grips tighter the shield;
The crook stabs behind, King drops to the field —
And steel upon steel will clash in the sun...
Till the deed of the blood is finally done —
Till the red-tainted blade slips from the hand;
Till the veil of the mist lifts from the land...

Upon the ramparts a sentinel cries,
As a lone rider in distance he spies.
Black cape flowing back, on a horse dark as coal
Lone rider approaches rounding a knoll;
Across the drawbridge he gallops in haste
And enters the courtyard, caped and grim-faced.
The soldiers and knights now gather around
— But no one utters a solitaire sound —
For draped behind rider, on a clawed hook
— Heads of the magician, the soldier, the crook.

Long Live The King!!!

I didn't like this. Your writing was brilliant. Your poem was flawless. I just didn't like the topic. The poem was beautifully written regardless of my not liking the topic.

Well, Kellie (long time no talk, by the way! JoexxKnobxx <-my sn), you have to think about it..

When you say you dont like this topic is that because you consider it old hot or cliche, perhaps? All of these dungeons and dragons and kings and wizards fantasies.. go to a book store and count the amount of fiction titles that bear a similar topic to what Mr. CastleGuard writes of.

By the way, CastleGuard, exceptional poetry on your behalf, I also enjoyed your poem and I happen to be a nut for Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Tolkien, Robert Newcomb (to name a few)
It just makes you wonder.

I want to say:

It exists in this universe. They live.

Thank you for the words of appreciation, and of  critique.

I realized at the outset that a dark, somewhat morbid poem such as this one, will not be to everyone's taste - and that is to be expected.

After having written not much else other than love poetry for the last 3 years or so...one needs to, occasionally, depart from the usual on a different voyage.

And this was such an excursion.

Thank you again.
