Midway through the bend
Water tumbled hard
In headlong fall that
scrapes its knees along the gravel below
furrowing out a channel
deeper than the shallow crowd
it ran through before.

In the anguished muffled roar of sound
I listen for the words you said
The ones which in just such a place
Led us to the edges of evening
Wrapped in bared skin and soul
Eager to explore
                      The next curve or bend
Till we ourselves lay spent
And the small fire we built
Reflected the hush
In both our eyes

That was long ago
And still the river tears along
Picking up first this stone
Then that
To rearrange the way it all sounds
When I hear again
        The sounds of twain

“Call your mark!”

“Set it at three!”

I hear the words sung out
Yet know along the edges of the notes they form
                I’m lost again
When thoughts of you are born

And I see you standing there
     Dress pulled tight by wind
                                               Waiting

Wondering
                             “ Does it ever end?”

Ron

"And I see you standing there
     Dress pulled tight by wind"

I love that image, and the whole poem!

The other night I was going through some stuff and came across a binder...and inside the outside pocket was a rock, that had been given to me.

Some rocks have meaning.

and so do certain memories.

and I wonder if we really want the memories to end....
