Tattoo Man

The pain of my soul runs deep
To a place where light dare not appear.
I am trapped in despair, surrounded by demons,
My fingers raw from scratching on the walls of my inner heart.
My lord why don’t you listen to my silent screams?
Every unanswered cry only adds to the doubt
Of your existence that that I have heard about but not seen---
I have coped this far, a small cheer for my human spirit,
But I am running out of small victories
And my hopes have just about tapped out;
Now here is the ironic part, the twist of this spiraling existence---
My pain has become my saving grace,
A weapon against darkness itself;
In fact, when lacking pain, I search almost hungrily,
Because it is a part of me that I need to survive, a tangible reality---
My soul absorbs this reality like a sponge soaking up water
And when it can no longer absorb anymore,
My physical body screams for its share---
My soul accommodates with visions of self-expression,
A transferal of inner pain in the form of a tattoo;
Every needle prick releases the darkness
As the red puddles become a print of life,
That will form my black shield of hope
As I walk fearlessly through the dark and evil
Because now I know why I am fighting---
The answer is written all over my body,
Only one question remains…
When will I see the light?

Marcel

Owie, this aches.  I have heard of this, though, the addiction to the pain of tattoos because it makes one feel.

a very good write, Marcel, one that might 'tattoo' itself to the reader

Marcel

There is so much honesty in this poem that it hurts to read it...I'm hope writing of your pain helped a bit.
