When in the course of
witnessing inhumane events
we find ourselves feeling powerless,
that is the time when it is most important
to dig more deeply into our stockpile of strengths,
uncover our collective lost voice,
re-affirm our dignity as thinking human beings.
When we remain silent or look the other way,
the seeds of injustice grow each day
into monstrous tangled webs that suffocate
the very essence of the human spirit.
It is NOT OK to sit smugly and shake our heads
while sitting on our hands or other body parts.
We must shake off our boots
and wade into the deep of it,
speak out and act decisively
for truth, justice, and
the human way.
