Recourse to Self

Between life and death
There is infinite wisdom
That drives the understanding of things;
Within this quiet moment is a reflective sigh
That remembers the good days passed
When the sun sprayed the skies orange
And content, iced the mountaintops across calm seas---
Proving that peace within itself is beautiful.

The questioning sigh that accompanies death is timeless
As it seems to gasp for life when the sun sets,
Choking…like being in a room full of worried smokers
Who pace and pace, waiting…
Speaking of time,
It is relative only onto itself,
Making patience a liar,
Hope the optimistic procrastinator,
And wisdom…well, lets ask God---
I have tried to ask in my dreams
And He seems to answer
But simplicity is what I seek
Because I sometimes forget when I awake.

Am I dreaming now?
As the moon turns liquid before my eyes,
Dripping off silver lined clouds
To form glowing drops of compassionate rain,
Slowly washing away the rust of death’s scythe
As God opportunes me this final recourse to self.

Marcel
