the voices shrill
unlike the soft tones i remember,
unlike the warm words
folding in around me.

i tell myself
that *it* has changed,
not me:
i am
       the same
young vibrant page
on which the world
writes its experience.

but i am the changeling:

darker eyes
and darker mind
now cloud --
perfect --
my vision.

i turn,
trailing manuscripts:

the wiser for the reading.

Welcome to Passions!  A wonderful first post,
and very much enjoyed.

the wiser for the reading....

how true those words ring!

It's better than I could have planned..
it's made me who I am...

I thought this poem was beautiful.  The words dripped off of each other amorously like the kisses that slip from the petals of a rose.  I loved it.
