I opened up my heart today,
And took a look within.
And stopped awhile to reminisce-
Of how things might have been...

I found myself much harder,
Than I had realized.
And quite a different person,
Than I might have surmised.

I found that I am selfish...
With thoughts of only me.
Though people I have helped along,
Might strongly disagree.

If all we give is money,
And never of our heart...
That is the sort of reasoning,
That tears a life apart.

I tore up all my numbers,
And tightly closed the door.
To hopes and dreams of romance.
I'll play that game no more.

I'm old enough to make it,
And spend my time alone.
And if I seem unhappy,
The decision was my own.

reminds me of my brother

and now I remember him saying "we all have choices in life"

he's good with the money part of it...that's all he knows

It's good to read your words again, John. You always give us a well-written dose of reality. But I do hope that when someone knocks on the door to your heart, you will open it.

Perhaps you do yourself a disservice, but it is true, the choice is your own.

There are times for closed doors, to be sure.
Just don't throw away the key.
