Tumbleweeds rolled the dust filled street
as horses stood in silent wait.
Where Five Card Stud ruled the table
and guns were drawn to seal one’s fate.

Was said by some who did recall
a fateful day before high noon.
A gent rode in to pick a fight
and he wanted it now, really soon.

The doors flew open,  he walked inside
A beer stood silent just for him.
A crescent scar beneath his eye
cast a glare, so ugly and grim.

The barkeep said that beer was free
and not to worry about the tab.
For when she came, Ms. Destiny
Another soul would find their slab.

The Undertaker sized him right up
for the pine box he had to build.
The stranger laughed, in disbelief.
Surely not he who would be killed.

A hush came over the house when
the soft step of a lady was heard.
Ms. Destiny, of soft dark eyes
approached the bar without one word.

He thought she might find some desire
to see what he had  stored away.
But Destiny grinned and stepped aside
for this would be his fateful day.

Pistols and knives and throwing things
were what she said she had for him.
He laughed and almost choked his beer
and called the barber for a trim.

She let him have his last request
before the fateful time arrived.
A knife she held to pierce his heart
For he would die as she survived.

They walked outside as crowds stood by
to see if she could take this man.
A golden voice and soft brown eyes
would fool him well, this was her plan.

They turned as one and walked away
until the paces were as she said.
His coat was open, a pistol gleamed
Ms. Destiny would soon be dead.

A rooster crowed, the town clock chimed
the hour of noon, so high and hot.
The stranger drew, his draw was timed
to take her down with just one shot.

And when the smoke and dust did clear
just one was standing free of harm.
The stranger lay, as death was near.
Slain by a voice, a woman’s charm.

For in his heart a knife did lie
as the last drops of blood were spilled
A crescent scar beneath one eye,
one more pine box was built and filled.

Vary Barry...I like your take on High Noon.  The heart holds many hurtful weapons...and also some that heal, yes?

Yes I too have heard about Susan and her 'tools'.
This did remind me of High Noon Barry.
Excellent write.

Barry,

I'm smiling, chuckling out loud, and am very flattered.  This was great fun.  Thank you so much for such a wonderful gift.

Hugs to you   susan
