Without Effort
By Larry Chadwick
For the memory

I’ve closed my eyes to picture you,
But you are not there.
I’ve carried pictures too,
And studied them with a prayer.

Since you’ve gone I’ve adjusted
To what it means to be alone.
Things are so different,
So much different than I’ve known.

I’ve visited places that we shared,
And found comfort in being there.
But the effort of seeking you,
Is for the memories we used to share.

And then with no effort on my part,
I close my eyes and fall asleep.
Amazing what I find in the dark,
It is so incredible I dare not weep.

When I least expect it,
I find you in my dreams.
It affirms what I’ve always known,
You were as special as it seems.

July 26, 2004

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry, I truly believe that she is with you at those times. I truly do.

Yours was a very special father/daughter relationship that transcends time and space ~ and you will be reunited. Until then, she drops by for little visits.

Loving hugs,
Linda

It's those memories and dreams of lost loved ones that keep us going Larry.
This most certainly touched my heart.

Beautiful Curse

Every moment of every day ...
you're still with me in every way.

Time passes but the love remains,
as does the need ... this goes unchanged.
Warmed by the light that glowed with in ...
touched by the words of a poets pen.

Every moment of every day,
you're still with me in every way ...
(in my heart to stay)

Every poem and song ... every rhyme and verse ...
you're still here ... like a beautiful curse.

JM/2000

~~~~~~~~~~~
On Mornings Return
By mornings light I rise ...
and I feel you from the depths of my soul.
While in that quiet moment,
I know I am complete and finally whole.
You're still with me every second,
everywhere I look ... it's you I see.
You are the breath that sustains,
you are my poetic light of destiny.
My day's new dawn ...
my moon's midnight sky.
My falling star to wish upon,
my angel wings to fly.
I see you in the satin clouds,
I taste you in the rain.
I hear you in the winds of change ...
softly whispering my name.
This love remains unfaltering,
you're in my heart to stay.
As you shine on me with the morning sun ...
I smile for I now know ... heaven's not so far away.
You know that darn ole Janet Marie always finds just the perfect reply   I know when I was so upset I couldn't remember if Willow's birthmark was on the left or right side of her cheek, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't picture her face in my mind.  She sent me one of my own poems to read.
That night I dreamt of her and saw her clearly.  Memories keep them alive and eventually we find a place that is comfortable but the space in the heart never quite fills, at least for me.
I felt this and wished I could be giving you and Nancy Lee a big ole hug. (but can we wait until winter - wow, you guys have hot weather right now!)
Ben,
Thank you and he truly has in many ways. In fact, more than I deserve.
Sharon,
Yup, I'll say it again...you're the best. And thank you so much for understanding and caring. I'd wait forever just for a hug from you and hopefully that would be in a cooler place.
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
I read this awhile ago, and didn't have a chance to reply... but I promised myself I'd come back and read it again, and reply. So, here I am!
The beginning of this reminds me of after my grandma died. I had spent all my life with her and then several months before she died I spent taking care of her 24/7 while she was in bed... and all the sudden I couldn't see her face. I was so mad at myself because it wasn't until I pulled out a picture that I could see her again. It had happened to me before, with other deaths, but never quite so extreme. With different reminders, certain smells or the way a tree rests, just-so, against a horizon, I go back into that short but deep and sharp mourning again... but when I forget her face it always turns up again, either as I try to sleep, or in a dream. Ahh I don't know why I said this much, but still, just wanted to thank you for the poem. It is powerful and beautiful and full of your love for her...
Always, Alyssa
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind as to how special Ginger Michelle was. I would imagine she would have had the kindest of souls and the warmest of hearts, much like that of her father.  Your words touched me deeply and how very well I could relate to this.
Take care.........Sue
