Visiting Earth on a Guest Pass

Youth

If it came back like a kite
suddenly remembering gravity,
that would be one thing;
but what if it ran glacially slow,
as a tree might quietly recollect
the pattern of its leaves
in some bygone springtime;
or something sudden, querulous
as the sudden memory
of an old friend’s phone number?

More likely it would be a dewdrop
on a cool summer morning,
its whole life turning around
the joy of its one sunset.

Ed

I guess it depends on what kind of youth you had, huh?  Me, there are parts of my youth that can just stay gone!!!  A beautiful poem, my friend.  Lovely imagery.

I enjoy the pattern your words leave...

I'd have to agree that it depends on the childhood. I know I won't want to go back to mine, (I'm young, forgive me ) but then, maybe going forward to adulthood isn't going to be all too great a venture either.

Maybe youth isn't what's wanted so much as happiness. I think every dewdrop and every sunset can bring just a little of that back, though.

Excellent writing... as always!

Always, Alyssa

There are several beautiful phrases in here that I almost copied, but I see they were the favorites of other, too.  Enjoyed your poetry.  Gee, youth... would like to replay parts of it again!

Or what if only part of it came back... all the confusion, hope, hormones and promise... and I was still in this aged carcass? *S*

More likely it would be a dewdrop
on a cool summer morning,
its whole life turning around
the joy of its one sunset.

This is absolutely beautiful, my friend...
