He set out to build a basket of the house
using the finest ingredients
he placed bamboo the color of a mossy stream
and made it bend to his will   a curve
then at each end a different vine
to grow from all this chaos    a church in which to pray

Oh    the time it takes   each morning some an inch
how long it takes to grow a place to live or die

The scarlet runner bean is best can do
torching the air with dark orange blossom
like some crazy heart it takes a leap of faith
and makes it to the roof

He is like that now....armed with shovel and soil amendment
he is a warrior
intricately weaving a fortress

but

I see all the open spaces where the sky falls
and I cannot save him with my love

=============================

oh my do I know this...know the desperation and the desire to do just that... save them with love....

still...

me thinks you answered some of your own questions with this...

like some crazy heart it takes a leap of faith
and makes it

all we can do is just be there...
(thats enough)

I would love to live as a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.

It is a man's way, as you know only too well. But you also know how to handle walls, as I recall -- drive your tanks around them, and they don't matter at all.

I see all the open spaces where the sky falls

Sometimes they are all too visible... after all... they are part of life's pattern, too.

Excellent, poignant write.
