Kiss of Fear

I was so young to have this agonizing fear of this man.
This man hiding in the hall, lurking ready to grab me, giving me hugs and little kisses, in
the adult world of just having fun.
No one in those days saw the error of their ways, not realizing this would stay with me for
the rest of my life.

Kiss of Fear

Everyone gathered in the living room.
People laughing, talking, munching through a friendly get together.
I was about the age of six, maybe even younger, and I was
laughing and playing with the neighbor kids.
A friend of my parents, a man, his name I do not remember,
was sitting talking and laughing, saying with a smile upon his face,
“Come here my pretty you owe me a kiss.”
For some reason I had a great fear in my heart for this man.
My reply was, “No.”
He reached for me laughing, everyone laughing, watching
and he kissed me.
I screamed in terror fought to get away ran into the bedroom and
locked the door and cried and shook with fear.
Later in the evening my mother came to the door and wanted me to
unlock the door.
My fear was so great I said,
“No!”
As tears of fear rolled down my face in dirty little streaks.
My mother assured me he was on his way home, not outside the
door waiting, waiting to grab me once again.
My parents seeing the fear put a stop to this adult prank,
but to this day I remember this first kiss and even now I cry for that
little girl and her unbearable fear.
So dear parents be careful of what you think is innocent fun
because to your little child it may be a kiss of fear.

A compelling story to the very last line.  Good one, but scary even to read, much less to think what it must be like to be in your shoes.

Bonnie,
Thank you for expressing this.  I know it must have weighed on you for years.  It is very kind of you to send it our way.  Sometimes we adults horse around, not thinking of the outcome.
And it doesn't have to apply strictly to children, does it?
Enjoyed this very much.  It is a keeper.
