Hostages

Deadline looms in hidden crypts
Temperature dropping fast
College crowds pointing
To a neighborhood of cramped corners
Where mutton still hangs in windows
Pink, with blood
Skeletons wearing bandanas, tied off
In the back of their heads
Electoral snake oil, grows a militant threat
Tattoos plucked from the curbs
Of free handouts
Demolition teams returning
Hollow and sullen
With screams from cars shocking
Flickering lights of moonwalkers
Faces ashen with splintering nightmares
By expert world assassins
Decaying papers owning Alzheimer’s
Piecing together puzzles
Of deepest revelations
Hapless victims running the gauntlet
Pale comas twisted
Spiked with stinging sand storms
Fearing pain that blocks the view
Caustic heartbeats
Shattered, amid the wreckage
Of innocence & substance
Mocking attempts to save it
Feeding on the distant din

LeeJ., such emotion you conjure through your imagery!  My favorite:

Shattered, amid the wreckage
Of innocence & substance

Enjoyed reading excerpts from your complex brain. You amaze me.
