pink shells, brown

the children run
gathering shells

– the pink ones, the brown ones –

making little piles
of little shells
holding, squabbling,
comparing, coveting

– the pink ones, the brown ones –

poking eyes and fingers
learn of shells
waved up to shore
from oceans, green, blue

– the pink ones, the brown ones –

and how to break them

so many beautiful things are broken out of curiousity and ignorance...
but at least when children do it, its much easier to forgive

Enjoyed this.  Ah, the lessons of curiosity.

You've captured a regrettable slice of human nature with this beautiful poem... I love the levels of your work! *S*

I loved this one too!

Very thoughtful analogy, with lots of meat for "thought" and yet still graceful enough to soar gentle.

sigh.

My writer's block wants a dose of whatever you're having...
