In her chair the rocking stopped
the patterned cricks  the patterned  squeaks;
Eyes upon mans hanky dropped.

Squeezed with care, softly wrinkled
Rubbed warm.
Threadbare

The cotton fell upon green tile
Like a garden upon a leaf;
New eyes began to burst
Shedding years of weighted wreath

To a place of  marbles and stones
Where they had played as kids
Leapfrog, Hopscotch, childhood tunes
“Give a Dog a Bone

This Old Man Comes Rolling Home”
He had!
His fabric filled tile number five.
Her hopscotch mind began its jive

     “One two three four five
Once I caught a fish alive”

Eyes, water sparkled
Her toes  wet
Dangling in their fishing hole.

     “Six seven eight nine ten
Then I threw him back again”

Murmurs back again,
then I threw him back again
backk, backkk
and I let him

Ah, this one just about brought tears to my eyes, as I have such a soft spot for the elderly with their memories of youth.  I visited my grandmother often when she spent her last years in the Nursing Home.  I could see in so many tired eyes a spark of their past youth still lingering.  This is the picture this poem brought to me.

I loved hopscotch, but the big kids kicked my rock away.
This is a touching tribute to those who have fine memories of youth.  KJ

a rhythm of time and beauty flows gently and nostaligicly through this, lovely

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

iliana,
I'm sorry for tears.  I attempted this poem about six months ago, put it down because it lacked. Yesterday, it poured out in different shades. Thanks for your sweet comment.  I'm humbled.

A curious thing happened as I was reading this stirring poem, the words seemed to echo in my head and many of the lines would repeat themselves... Just as though they were my own memories haunting me from a distant past. But then an image of an elderly man appeared and he smiled at me and I had the realization, that they were truly his memories and that he wanted to share them with me....

Love & Light,
EA

LeeJ.,
You are so real.  Thanks for your kind remarks.  I can't say I'm very enthused about that time...But, perhaps, it will give time of silence to churn things over left unchurned.

Earth Angel,
Thank you for sharing this with me.  Your experience is curious.  I hope it was a pleasant experience for you.  The woman in the chair who held the hanky was my grandmother. (Although she always held a lady's handerchief.) The fishing and other stuff was fiction.) The tiles were not.  I'm sure my mind often played upon the tiles as a youngster.
