My town was an orphan, waiting my return
It was small, but precisely mine
Not to possess, but to be part of
Like memories once again warming up
Wicked little nostalgia, playing hide and seek
While insulation slowly frayed from electrical wiring

Grasping, long dark corridors of the past
Which always stood on my shoulders
But…never seemed to be able to anchor
Boasting around like a male ego
Not understanding why I wasn’t always there
Lost the dish cloth, every time the power went out

Snared with ink blots, staggering like an alcoholic
My head was lifted up by the wind
Throwing both of us into the side of a cliff
Slowly climbing a makeshift ladder
We found each other once again…if only for moments
Trembling, half blind and dead
Mind’s eye of history, had been shot down
And it would leave, taking with it, paths I had taken

While laying unconscious in cold blue modern art
Slowly, ever slowly, antique mystery unfolded
Returning, after long dark forest walks
Convinced there really was a Merlin
I could hear the room breathing again!

There was an inhuman and unnatural insurance policy
One of which was a master of magic
Returning my past, in it’s own particular clock
Tugging my mind like a beautiful proud matriarch
It was good to feel the tears break through
Even if contrary in it’s passage

There was a time, my life didn’t live here anymore
Unbearably humiliating, those drunken stubbers
But as the past returns, now, I’m like a child
Pulling candles out of a birthday cake, one at a time

It is now proven that a person can have one bout with MS and have it never return again.  The entire ordeal lasted approximately 2 years...

I thourough believe that someone was watching over me...and the loss of memory still comes back at it's leisure...but nothing a body can't deal with

Such a vivid frightening description of MS! Hope it never revisits with that intensity again.

~ This is an excellent example of why I enjoy reading you!!! You are a masterfully poetic poetessa! I could read you forever!

What a horrible experience you had. I pray that you never have to stumble down that path again!

Loving hugs,
Linda

I've got to admit, I didn't read the title and I thought this was about an old romance.  It was an incredible read that way, too, but new meaning occurred when I read the notes at the bottom.  This is excellent, one of your best, I think.
        thanks,

Lee, this is the most incredible piece I have read in a long long time...
Bless you for being able to write about it with such clarity.
Let's pray you never ever have to endure another bout.

LeeJ

What a talent you have with words, my friend.  An amazing journey you were on...and I can see that although you were strong and beautiful before it, you are now more so!

many thanks to all of you...for your support and patience, enduring my sometimes overwhelming long reads...your all much appreciated, not to mention, talented poetesses.

Yes, it was horrible at the time, but in all honesty, there are worse things and a little memory loss, never hurt anyone...smiles and hugs to you all

The following was my favorite stanza, too. That first line is priceless! I recently learned that a daughter of a friend has MS. Do think this would be a good one to share with her? Hers has stayed with her, pretty much, if I understood my friend right. If you think she might identify and perhaps even capture a semblance of hope for long remissions, do I have your permission?

Please e-mail me, if so. Speaking of memory losses, mention the name of this poem in the e-mail in case it's a few days before you answer.

While laying unconscious in cold blue modern art
Slowly, ever slowly, antique mystery unfolded
Returning, after long dark forest walks
Convinced there really was a Merlin
I could hear the room breathing again!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Unbearably humiliating, those drunken stubbers

Pulling candles out of a birthday cake, one at a time

and what a beautigul gift you receive each time a candle comes round again
very eloquently expressed about this
bleak chapter in your life

Morning Lee J.
Stopped to read your lovely words of hope and strength.Much enjoyed are talk last night and hope all is well today, my friend.
Once many years ago I had an allergic reactions to medication the doctor had given me.
It was like my body was frozen unable to move, my mind was still working but I could not communicate. I sit in the lunch-room at work with my head bowed and people walking by thinking I had fallen asleep. Finally someone stopped to see if I was alright as a tear fell to the floor all I could muster was "can't move". Needless to say I was taken to the emergency room and taken care of. The doctor later said I had given him gray hair.
After reading this. This time in my life entered my mind and I thought I would share the fear we all have at one time or another in our life's. But when we have a deep down faith in out deepest inner self we will survive and rise above all tribulations.
Talk to you soon girl friend.
Love and lots of hugs.
BonBon

It's like a second chance...
and apparently, you're running with it.
Well done, Lee J...a marvelous bit of insight...
Here's to you, and your health! *clink*
