Some Nights I Hear Them All

In the weeping dark of some bad dream
I toss     waiting for a breath upon my neck
to tell me that it is not real
that only warm honey is real
your quiet heart’s rhythm is real

There is no sinister clock waiting inside you
but I can hear it ticking as I lay awake
holding off the dark
sure that under the bed lurks death's hands
and as soon as I lose my vigil they will steal
steal the warm place that reaches to me
and says it will be all right
everything will
be
all right

and a thousand years from now
will it have mattered
this small fear
amidst the clutter of blood and highways

I disappear in every minute
parts of me floating like dust in slant of sun
parts falling to the ground
while you hold on valiently to just my hand

This petty need of mine to make the world turn
to my dimension
is a hollow echo of so many screams
and some nights when I am listening
I hear them all

These words tore at me, hugs martie. No, not a 'hollow' echo to pray for what you are. may they be heard. hugs

Oh my sweet Martie...
I ask that all your prayers be answered..
and no more silent screams are heard.
Keep on holding his hand.
This just reached in and grabbed at my heart-strings

Yep, some kindred thread unravelled and made a way for us to understand the knots. I hear you poetess, the room is full of voice...one you must continue to use. Big hugs.

Sincerely,
Reg

I read poems as amazing as this one right here, and I suddenly feel inferior. . . .

In my eyes, I'm not lazy.  In your eyes, I'm not worth it.

Martie, I too have known such nights, and you have expressed these feelings and horrifying thoughts and fears, unbelievably well! Your poetry moves through your readers.

May the angels surround you and your family while you slumber and may your nights be full of grace and peace.

Loving hugs,
Linda

This petty need of mine to make the world turn
to my dimension
is a hollow echo of so many screams
and some nights when I am listening
I hear them all

I think we all have that need... but no matter how hard we listen, the world doesn't... it goes on its way unheeding... breaking our hearts as it does.

A poignant touching write where fears and the tears they bring seep right off the page.

“and a thousand years from now
will it have mattered
this small fear”

It matters.

Beautiful portrayal.  Deep emotions.
Enjoyed.

Martie, that was so deeply moving.  Sometimes to me life seems to have the overcrowding of every emotion that one can feel.  It is so hard to hear through them all that it feels like so many people screaming for mercy.  And that is what your poem meant to me.  Thank you for seeing my emotions with your beautifully meaningful words.

Ms Martie...

I know those nights...they are on the other side of the wall..and the wall is glass
with shear seams that open
when the wind blows

but they close with the dawn
and the wind is just a whisper then
and the sun plays loud music
to make those nights turn to sighs

kewl stuff ms m
