What Isn't There

I watch for, but no longer expect
deep inside knowing
what isn't there.

It will seep from me until
I am an empty shell again.

Nights will darken earlier
and the heat of the setting sun
will take with it, the fire in my eyes.

To lose what I have gained
mourns me softly to sleep.

Visionless in wake, an outline only
winds around my words,
regret the only sound heard...
without you.

I play the screen, trying to feel again
what isn't there, eyes
that use to search, mine
seeking the tiniest crumb of recognition
realizing that currents change
and troubled waters are ahead.

And so I drift, no longer in need of
what isn't there.

M

Seems there are always trouble water ahead,
More than enough to flow under the bridge and over the dam.
But we must just float along,
Enjoyed

Flash flooding... in the wake

sometimes it takes a storm...other times
just the warnings

Maureen,

things will improve.

Wow.  Such compelling words.  I had to read several times just to get past this verse.
Very deep emotion.

Perhaps in time, there will be many gains from the lose...Hope so, good things should come to a poet with such a lovely heart.
