As I read how to overcome suffering and bring about a life of peace and happiness, it has been mentioned over and again that it is in desiring what we cannot or do not have that in part brings about misery and suffering.I thought I'd play with this a bit, and thus . . .

The Unquenchable Fire

It is in that wanting
That trouble arises

Before the desire
The fire burned cool
Flickering in idle
A cool shade of blue

It was your smile
That lit the torch
Amidst gasoline poured
Into a virgin pool
To burst forth into burning
A heated yellow riot
A passionate thirst

And though the flames
That flared unto the sky
Soon settled down
They did not die
But rather devoured flesh
Searing in brand
Of ravenous quest

A burning unsated
This insidious pyre
That consumes my breast
In its heated desire
And trouble proceeds
Into unquenchable fire

Burning . . .
Ever burning.

It is in the wanting
That trouble arises

Icebox -- thank you.  As much of what you write makes statements, your compliment pleases me greatly.

Passing Shadows, I understand your suffering.  Perhaps not to such a depth, but I do understand.  I'm glad you were touched by my words.

Kaile -- thanks for your encouragement.  I too like the ravenous quest, I appreciate the feedback.

TD -- as always, your replies warm me.  Thank you.

Unquenchable, defined. Your verse is a powerful depiction. To burn this way, is indeed impassioning. But to a degree, dangerous as well. Enjoyed.

Sincerely,
