I’m burning all my bridges.
I’m cutting all my ties.
I guess that turning fifty…
Made me stop and realize:

That youth don’t last forever,
And after it is gone…
Things work out so much better-
If a man goes on alone.

So I’ll finish out my trail alone.
The way I’ve always been.
I’d give a million dollars,
To have known it all back then.

I live and love within my books-
Leave romance in my mind.
The kind of life I wanted,
Is the kind you never find.

A cowboy in my younger days,
A drifter till I die.
I never could establish roots,
I’m too old now to try-

When my last bridge is burning,
And I’m drifting loose and free-
Just bury me the place I drop,
That’s how it’s meant to be.

I'm always amazed as to how cowboys
are truly the most romantic of poets...

Thank you for this, John.

This seems sad to me .... but if it is the way that you want it ... okay then.
Your words always touch me deeply Gunslinger.
I am certain that there are many females out there just a wishin' you'd change your mind and settle down. Ah well. hugs, Chris

Fifty!  You's just a youngin'.  Still, though I find it most sad, traveling roads alone, it is understood.

Well written John.  But I agree with Enchantress.  You can never predict when love will sneak up on you on life's trail.  Perhaps you should be sleeping with one eye open?

believe in what your heart feels...
