The Making of the Map Home

Waiting for the dark I’m going somewhere
late in the night after dusk I’m more aware
tucked in to silk by shades of lemon caught
in the soft of pillow by book and penned thought
where I write the things that in day I cannot

Safe indoor spent and breathing bees
the steady climb of chest to life the key
and soft purr of song a lock of strong
I watch in quiet wait his face inside my own
beyond my lashes somber and wise
seeking a place for home a guide

Layered air is heavy then
so darned to the ball that slides
making lines within the earth’s circle
that cause the still in dream to slip and unwind

And so caught in hold of needle I regress
back to the stitch taken tentative in green
across the meadow made of my decisions
into the pond of moss covered then stream
I bathe in path where pearls dive and drain a dream
and fasten around my knowing a garment made of maps
that should he falter on his path will lead him home again

If I were not your friend?
I would say...publish.

But I am your friend.

And you know what I would say.

Someday...I hope to write
not like you...
or as you...
but

akin to you.  A sister in heart.

This...is so rare in touch...so deep in heart...

this...
is life.

Breathing.

and...libraried.

Thank you for your replies to this....I wrote it wanting to be the map...to help find the way for someone I love that may get lost, but I also realize that home is in each of us, wherever we go.  So, I guess we need to make our own maps.

Karilea...you are such a dear friend and heart sister...even more so now.

Barry very...you are so dear!

Nancy...I know how big your heart is.

Janet Marie...No, it's too warm for flannel...it's only skin.

This is a poem and a statement, to which no words of mine would be an appropriate response.

I love this, and that most of all.
Your poetry tugs so hard, in the very best way.

This felt like moonlight...a sleepless night, and projected heart stars of navigation. Divinity to my velvet purse dear poetess. Your gifts are vast, yet so comforting.

This is a lovely expression of troubled thoughts seeking to be strong for a loved one.  Beautifully done.  KJ

Martie - you are a map for many with words that touch us so deeply - I think each of us needs to partially find our own way and also need help from "maps" out there who can show us...you are truly a powerfully talented poet - thanks for beautiful verse - Paul

Now THAT is really a very considerate thing to do.  It is easy to get lost, even more easy to stay lost.  *smile*

(smiles) I truly believe in our own hearts we are the topographers, but indeed love and friendships are what create the legends on each of the maps and function as compass roses we always have handy should we not make it home on our own on more cloudier nights! (big angel hugs) In a way, I think friends are who remind us the maps we create are not just parchment, God Bless You, sweet friend, I miss you very so much and am happy to read you again, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Speechless, absolutely speechless. Just beautifully expressed Martie.

It's simply amazing, the perspective that time brings to your work....things turn clear that were veiled before, and things that were clear then gain dimension with the change of light. That's how it is with a true artist's words, to one who cares enough to read them in depth.

I care enough, and I'm glad I revisited this one, I think....though perhaps later I won't be. That's also how it is with an artist's words....some things hit you later whether you return to read or not.
