in the shadows

Absent friends,
absent friends
struggling in darkness,
looking for a rhyme,
we wouldn't call it peace
if we didn't have the time.

Subtle movements
at the corners of my eyes,
never realized as anything
but broken articles of faith,
I built this mansion in the center,
shrouded in the mists
on cold and lonely rock,
I chose every this and that,
every target lock
where every field of fire rolls
exposed to the horizon.

Blood upon the edges,
the broken shards of memories
drifting,
shaggy whorls
within the fog of my amnesia,
the soul's time worn patina
clearing,
for brief moments in my dreams
where worlds of other lives' debris
leak dancing points of light at me,
through straining stitching
in the fabric woven from this life;
I was taught control,
like sleeping with the devil
showing no weaknesses,
no points of honor
or remaindered yearning,
revealed to furnish grasp
by which to steal my soul.

Timing is essential,
learning to pace myself,
knowing
visions moving in the wind
inherently are never shown complete,
but torn about the edges
picked up in storms,
dropped at random
as the winds grow tired,
puzzle pieces come together
just as likely pulled apart;
I am left standing in the paradox,
the heart of trying to remember.
In the art painted by survival
I forgot.

Absent friend,
absent friends
clamoring in corners,
scrambling for time,
we wouldn't call it logic
if we never found the rhyme.

Some times there just are no words to reply right.

Completely understandable, icebox, and so wonderfully expressed as only you can do it.

I have re-read this one over the past couple of day several times, Icebox.  It is incredible writing and I enjoy untangling the truths you weave within your work.  I'll be back to study this one again from my library.  *smiles* .......jo
