.

.
How could you leave me
here by myself
All alone in Cathy's room
This house is haunted
by her laugh,
Sobs of jilted lovers
add to the gloom.
The scent of heather
does not calm my pulse
For I know it's braided
in her hair.
Thick mist from the moors
dampens curtains torn
and hovers ghost like
in sea chilled air.
Don't be charmed by Cathy
and her gypsy ways
Cold as ice are her
perfect lips blood red.
Heathcliff is sure to be
in a jealous state
Though he too be
long since dead.
She'll tease you
like a child
and consume your soul
You won't even feel
a thing.
Just your heart pounding
like a horse's hooves
The crack of her whip
doesn't seem to sting.
Let me out of this boudoir
meant purely for them
Temptation's spell
has made you blind.
Only they can run wild
forever
on the cliffs
Her hair, her skirts flying -
Heathcliff grinning, shouting -
"Sweet Cathy, she is
mine!"

I tend to think there is a link between reality and fairy tales,
and/or vice versa.  You got me going , you did!

I love the way you wrote this, Chris~

It's been quite a while since I read Emily Bronte's masterpiece, but you have done a hauntingly fantastic job of recreating the memory and the mood of this novel.  It was one of my favourite novels.  I had to wear a sweater when I read it because it gave me chills.... I am reaching for my favourite sweatshirt now.....

Stirring and most provocative spell you've written under. Unrequited realms that live on within the confines of novel walls, and poetic release. She would be so proud of this piece.

My goodness, Chrislane, this is a perfectly written poem.
I really enjoyed reading it. It was like reading
a part from a novel, through the eyes of you.
I loved it.

Ethel
