Listening to every heart

Fourth of Fireflies, Cracklin’

The evening started simple,
the query was asked, how late
can you stay? And it was said….

“Just 10 minutes
or so,” and
to the patio we had gone,

as we eased into
conversational drift.

Our friends from the south
came to claim some sweet time,
come home to the north, as
we offered
manners of gift….

For we gift them time
as they gift to us,
the assured, and they, ever
at ease,

so the

afternoon swiftly sang
to soft evening,
and I remarked,

“the fireflies are hanging
a slight breeze.”

No finer a Fourth of July
has been spent,
with two friends who are curious,
and sure;
questions were asked,
and tales were then told;
and the evening did hang
so pure.

Too soon, the ten minutes,
some four hours later,
they then picked up to leave,
and did…
but time, and gifts,
are hung by a vine,

and later,
grown grapes will release
reveries.
