One More Fish

You pick me up, and swing me 'round,
The greatest man in all the world.
My love for you, it has no bound,
I'll always be your little girl.

You taught me how to catch a fish,
To read, to laugh, and to love.
Then you taught me how to wish,
On the stars shining high up above.

We stand together, at the bay,
You look at me and you beam.
I'll always be your girl, you say,
I wake up, it's just a dream.

I roll over in my bed,
And pull the curtains wide.
I look out at the stars overhead,
And wish you were by my side.

I don't know why I make that wish,
It's destined to never come true.
But I'd give my life for one more fish,
To be caught, standing there, next to you.

This is for my grandfather

I got a little lump in my throat as I read your poem. It also brought to mind similar memories that I have of my father. Unlike your father, he does not now live among the stars ~ but he does live thousands of miles away.

I am now going to give him a call. Thank you, T_S.

Loving hugs,
EA

How lovely.  My grandfather used to take us fishing as well.  Sweet tribute.

Tequilia Sunrise,

This is beautiful.  My Grandfather and I used to go fishing with the cane poles and the cat.  (As I remember, we fed the cat pretty well on the banks!)

"don't know why I make that wish,
It's destined to never come true.
But I'd give my life for one more fish,
To be caught, standing there, next to
        you.

Tequila, I'm sure you have a stringer filled with memories.  They last a lifetime.
