At the base of my life or in a basement,
whichever you choose to believe,
I store my collection not yet catalogued
of glasses, tins, bottles, and barrels.

There are glasses all shapes,
long stemmed, delicate,
tumblers, beer mugs, and small ones
with little blue ducks all in a row
symbolizing the absence of change.

My tins are large - I could have said big
but they’re very much bigger than big
so enormous tins for remembering sin
stand in a pile by the door.

Bottles in crates stacked ceiling high
hold the pain of my past mistakes
and somewhere around a million corks
seem unsure of their purpose in life
and lie in wait for my feeble hand
to pound them in with a hammer

Barrels!  Innumerable barrels,
fat ugly things in my way,
hold the outpour of tears
and fill up more every day.

But all are designed as a necessary base
from which I see-saw and fall
till love jumps in from the other side
and springboards me into the light.

The light of day, the light of love,
whichever you choose to believe,
requires the base of surrender by me
before my collection can burn
and come back again as baubles and beads
to internally beautify me.

But who would wear baubles and beads
in the land of pure honesty
where all can see from the base to a face
the true beauty of both you and me?

Thank you, Seymour - glad you enjoyed.

Magnus - I'm not quite sure how to interpret "wow" but I nevertheless say thank you.

Hum, who knows what lurks
in thoughts long forgotten
let alone those hidden boxes

Enjoyed

Hugs, you are beautiful, Helen, and so is your basement and your attic in its own way.   .....jo
